There's no need to take a break from the action with JVC's intuitive control key layout and Grip Band design. The XLPR70 also feature a Digital Tuner with 20 FM Presets, WMA Playback, MP3 with Text Display, Hyper Bass Sound, Anti Shock Protection, 64 track program Random/Repeat Play and 20 hour continuous playback are just some of the features you get with this portable CD player.

1 out of 5 stars All the right features, but stopped working...   March 1, 2008
sliprocket (USA)
This player has all the right specs: plays CDRs, CDRWs, MP3s, WMAs, has FM Radio, the always good JVC Hyper-Bass boost, anti-skip protection, decent headphones, decent sound quality regardless of speakers or headphones, and a battery compartment door on the outside (not underneath the CD tray on the inside like some other players).

The CD playing function (MP3s on CDRW) worked for approximately 90 minutes before mysteriously stopping. From that point forward, it would not play ANY CD, factory pressed CDDA, MP3 CD, homemade CDDA CDR ... NOTHING worked.

I originally registered for a refund, but changed my mind and am awaiting a replacement unit. There are bad units in every production run of electronics; it's just a matter of what percentage is bad. My understanding through my own experience and through the experience of others is that JVC generally makes very good products, and has few manufacturing problems, so maybe this was just a rare fluke.

I will report back on the replacement unit after testing it.

4 out of 5 stars Not Bad   October 20, 2007

After narrowing my choice for a music data player to a MP3/WMA CD Player (I decided over MP3 players and MiniDisc players, for various reasons). I went with the JVC XLPR70 portable MP3/WMA player, which after owning for 4 months I consider it a good buy.

My gripes for this CD player are the song and album titles along with the artist names from a MP3/WMA CD, scroll extremely slow on the LCD display; you can't adjust the scrolling speed. Another gripe is the bass increase adjustment sucks, hardly an improvment on the bass! The maximum volume level also sucks, I find myself wishing to increase the volume level beyond the max level on moderate noisy environments. One more gripe is, it doesn't have any equalizer settings.

The pros for this CD player are, it's rugged; I've dropped it several times without breaking or malfunctioning (althought it popped open and the CD went flying). It plays both MP3 and WMA files, even when both formats are in one disc. It includes a FM tuner. The earphones are pretty good (I've never owned any fancy earphones so take it with a grain of salt). When running on batteries, it will operate for about ~20+ hours before needing fresh batteries again.

All in all, I think its a good buy. I can save aproximately 130 song on a CD (with Windows Media Player default ripping quality). Its cheaper than most good MP3 players and definately cheaper than a MiniDisc player.

5 out of 5 stars An excellent all around portable CD/Tuner player.   April 7, 2007

The sound quality is superb, and the controls and their functions are also very good. The headphones give up nice high end and midrange detail with solid bass response. The addition of a built in tuner makes for an excellent and versatile portable CD player.Highly recommended.
